Description: A thicket forming shrub found in abundance on sandy soils. Young stems smooth, becoming scaly with age. Fruits are eaten by some species of birds and mammals, and are good eaten fresh or for making jelly. The growth form makes it excellent cover for quail and other species of wildlife. Leaves may be browsed by white-tailed deer during the summer. Spring flowers (before leaves) are very aromatic. Also commonly called Sand plum.
